MAKANDA — Phyllis King, 84, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, at home surrounded by her much loved family.
She was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Williamson County to Chester and Mary (Durbin) Johnson.
On Sept. 24, 1955, she married Charlie O. King. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2013.
Phyllis was a member of St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church.
She enjoyed being around her family most of all. She enjoyed gardening, camping and boating on Crab Orchard Lake.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeannene (Jim) Cooper of Marion and Janet Phillips of Makanda; grandsons, Brad (Dayna) Vogt of Carbondale, Scott (Jessica) Vogt of Carbondale and Heath (Heather) Rushing of De Soto; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Johnson of Herrin; brother, Michael (Barbara) Johnson of Anna; other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Chad Rushing.
Services for Phyllis King will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home, with Father Bob Flannery officiating. Interment will follow in Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
