JOHNSTON CITY — Rick L. Smith, 62, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday May 8, 2019, at home with his wife, family, and friends by his side.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Pastor Don Colson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Herrin Cemetery behind his parents. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children and Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Rick was born on April 29, 1957, the son of Donny and Shirley (McPheron) Smith.
Rick was an underground coal miner, then ran and owned part of Predator Boats at Johnston City. He owned Ramlin Ricks Bar. B. Q. Wagon and Barbeque Sauce business. He was a heavy equipment operator at local mines.
He loved fishing and motorcycle riding. He had a small motorcycle as a child and continued to ride until diagnosed with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; father, Don; sister, Vickey Anderson and husband, David; son, Matthew and wife, Madelaine; granddaughter, Maelyn Smith; uncle, Larry McPheron and wife, Kathy; stepson, Caleb Wall; stepdaughter, Kearsten Wall; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his puppy buddies, Dozer and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his mother and all grandparents.
