Bob Barger

ANNA — Bob Barger, 85, died Friday, July 12, 2019, at Marion VA Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Pope County, the son of Clarence and Audie (Randolph) Barger.

He graduated from Marion High School in 1952 and married Carol Kay (Trefts) on Dec. 5, 1958, in Marion.

Bob honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He signed up for overseas duty during the Korean War and was assigned to air bases in Korea and Japan where he served as an AC Crew Chief. Bob was in the Air Force Reserves until 1960 and, during this time, he worked as an aircraft engineer for McDonnel Douglas in St. Louis and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri.

He later worked in management for Tuck Tape in Carbondale, and took classes at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Always the do-it-yourself entrepreneur, Bob also oversaw his own trucking company and built homes on the side.
