ZEIGLER — Ronald Ray 'Newt' Newton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, in Frankfort Care Center, West Frankfort.

He was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Johnston City. He was one of 12 children of Thelma and Roscoe Newton in Johnston City.

He married Rosie Lee Newton (Robinson) in 1958 and they raised eight children, Terry Newton (Debbie), David Newton (Kim), Steve Newton (Kimbra), Paula Chaput (Paul), Doug Newton (Delilah), Kevin Newton (Angie), Gary Newton (Dianne), and Tom Newton. He had 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

During his retirement he served with distinction as an auxiliary police officer for 30 years in Hawesville, Kentucky, and Ziegler, along with being a first responder and volunteer firefighter.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Thelma; wife Rosie; son, Tom; siblings, Wilma, Thurman, Harold, Roy, Dollie, Robert, Glen and Joe.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, with memorial service at 2 p.m. at Union Funeral Home West Frankfort.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or John Wayne Cancer Institute.

The family would like to thank the staff at Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort for caring for their dad like family for the last three years. They would like to say a special thank you to Sue Miner for her dedication, loving care, and devotion to their father.
