BENTON — William (Bill) Tennison, 96, passed away Wednesday evening Aug. 28, 2019, in Benton.
Mr. Tennison was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Rend City, the son of Grover Cleveland and Jennie Blanche (Hutson) Tennison.
He married Shirley (Seibert) Sneed on June 1, 1957.
Mr. Tennison was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army from March 30, 1944, to May 11, 1946.
He was a retired coal miner, working at Old Ben 21.

Mr. Tennison was a member of North Benton Baptist Church.
Mr. Tennison is survived by his wife; five children, David S. Sneed and Connie J. of Benton, Dennis W. Sneed and wife, Candice D., of Christopher, Lindell A. Sneed and wife, Pam S., of Wadsworth, Christy L. Landford and husband, Stephen, of St. Louis, and William Joel Tennison of Benton; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Dorothy Umbrianna of Salem.
Mr. Tennison was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Winnifred Marie; by two sons, William Tim Tennison and John Tyler Tennison; one brother, Clarence; three sisters, Gladys M., Lorene E. and Jennie Leah; and by one sister-in-law, Doris Choisser.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 in North Benton Baptist Church, with the Revs. Gary West and Larry G. Waltney officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Benton American Legion and VFW Posts and the National Guard Honor Squad will be in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the church.
