        MARION -- A buffet dinner, dancing, and the auctioning of tickets for many athletic events will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the annual Red Rose Gala at Kokopelli Country Club in Marion.

          JONESBORO -- The Forest Service would like to notify the public that beginning Feb. 23, the Shawnee National Forest office in Jonesboro will change their office hours. Mississippi Bluffs Ranger District in Jonesboro will be closed Mondays and open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

            CARBONDALE -- March is colorectal cancer awareness month and to help draw attention to the need for preventative screenings such as colonoscopy all participants who register for the Butts and Guts 5K Walk/Run by March 23, will be provided with t-shirts and boxers.

              MURPPHYSBORO -- Friends and members will be able to take advantage of a preview sale of the Sallie Logan Library book sale from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the library in Murphysboro. A $5 membership fee can be paid at the door.

              SPRINGFIELD -- Sadie Gassmann, Miss Richland County Fair, was crowned Miss Illinois County Fair Queen by retiring Queen Summer Robins. Gassmann is majoring in elementary education at SIU Edwardsville. She is the daughter of Gwen Gassmann and the late Chris Gassmann of Olney.
