How is Rachel Dunning still a university employee? She was an Alpha Gamma Delta at SIU and she was active in these same exact serenades for years. The university claims it had no knowledge but the chair for Fraternity Sorority life participated and had knowledge of these events based on the accounts of hundreds of alumni. Cancel Rachel Dunning ✊🏾
A thoughtful and even-handed assessment of the SIU hazing investigation, if one takes the time to read this fairly long article in full. What is not included, however, is the reminder that these pledges are barely out of high school and many living away from home and alone for the first time. Can boys (not men) in this situation ever truly consent to such an experience? Will grown men who went through it ever want to admit in retrospect that their pledge experience was degrading and unnecessary to create a great college experience?
Imagine calling a fraternity that is consistently in the top 3 for grades "bottom tier" all because you're mad that some dumb girls got exposed. If you think ACTUAL HAZING isn't an issue you're part of the problem. Get off your entitled, privileged soapbox and try to make some REAL positive change in the world.
The person who wrote this article was a member of one of the bottom tier fraternities at SIU that never receives any attention and thus never got a true experience of greek life. This article is incredibly biased and only written to try and cast the SIU greek community out. As a former member of Carbondale greek life, I can say that the actions of these two chapters, while wrong, firstly does not constitute anything so serious that it would need to become newsworthy (it’s essentially just legally consenting adults having a little too much fun) and secondly it also degrades things like the thousands of hours greeks put towards community service, outreach programs, and the millions of dollars every year that Greeks raise for charity. Shame on whoever wrote this.
Only angry sorority girls are commenting lmao
If you think Rachel Dunning, Jennifer Jones Hall, and SIU didn’t know about the hazing then your just as much a fool as these students. This has been mainstream Carbondale Greek life culture for the past 10 years.
What SIU doesn’t want anyone to know is that the only sorority women involved in the hazing incident were granted FULL IMMUNITY while the whole sorority chapter received punishment. The university not only let these eight pathetic women get off with no punishment but several of them were offered graduate school positions at SIU and one to the med school. It’s absolutely appalling how the university, Lori Stettler, JJH, Rachel Dunning, and any other authority gave no punishment to the 8 women who actually took part in this Dads weekend hazing event just because of favoritism and blatant lack of admitting their own fault. The authority at SIU have let these things slide for years, it’s just a matter of who is their favorite and who isn’t. Just know that SIU is still supporting those eight women as if they never took part in such a horrible event.
yea, you forgot the part where the university issued amnesty for the 8 sigkap members involved and then turned around and suspended the entire organization that had no knowledge of said event, despite those ladies having been expelled. Jennifer Jones Hall, as well as Rachel Dunning, head of FSL, is well aware of greek culture considering Rachel was an AGD President in recent years.
