The Union County Kiwanis Club for the first time inducted a woman into its membership.

On Thursday, Oct. 4, Kari Kinder was the first woman to be inducted into the Union County club during a ceremony at the Kiwanis Club House on the Union County Fairgrounds in Anna. 

This was the first year the Union County Kiwanis Club opened its membership to women since its founding in 1953.

Darryl Adams was also inducted on Oct. 4.

The Kiwanis Club annually sells barbecue at the Union County Fair to raise money for organizations that benefit children in Anna and the surrounding community. The club is hosting a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Kiwanis Building at the fairgrounds, with proceeds to fund new uniforms for the Anna Junior High football league. Tickets are $10.

The club meets at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Kiwanis Building. Meetings are open to anyone interested in joining the club.
