As a rural small business owner, business support resources are limited. The support from my Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which is backed in part by the SBA, has been so invaluable that I drive over an hour each quarter to meet with my adviser. My adviser helps me update my business plan, elevate my market and increase my overall confidence as a business owner. If I had a closer business center, I could access more support, but my local SBDC shut down a few years ago due to a lack of financial resources.
As America’s job creators, small business owners need better access to free and low-cost technical assistance so we can grow our businesses and continue to positively impact our communities and our economy. This increased budget for small business support services is an excellent step in the right direction, and I hope to see more small business support from the government in the future.
