To the Editor:
We want to say thank you to all who helped these past months to feed the hungry in our community.
Many food drives stocked our shelves, notably Cobden High School, Carbondale High School, Anna-Jonesboro Beta Club and the Lick Creek FFA. We are very proud of our young people who worked so hard on these food drives.
Also donating were Connect Point Church, First Baptist Churches of Anna and Jonesboro, Anna Jo Garden Club, Ameren CIPS, Eagles Nest Watch Ministries, Anna Baptist Church, Land Of Lincoln Americorp, Big Creek Church, Subway for the great bread, Sav-a-Lot for bags, and many anonymous donors.
If I missed anyone, I'm sorry — you are appreciated. Every donation helps. Thanks also to the Walmart employees who do the extra work to bring us vegetables, fruits and bread.
In November and December, we took in 6,227 pounds of food from donations. By sharp contrast, January totaled only 483 pounds and February 1,493 pounds. It doesn't take long for our shelves to empty. Please remember those less fortunate in our community. We can't help unless you help.
I challenge businesses, churches, banks, and individuals to take up food collections on a regular basis. We then can continue our work in feeding the hungry. Monetary donations are also accepted. Our pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, or call Julie at 618-833-1777 to make special arrangements.
Thank you again for your hard work and donations.
