“This restaurant is a cut above others in the region. Food, ambiance, and service are very good. Cost is reasonable for the quality. If you're trying to make a good impression on someone you should start here. Classy not stuffy, delicious not opulent.

Downstairs through a side door is a second area called the Grotto. The Grotto is a lounge and a limited menu with discounted food on certain nights and a full bar and nightly music. A great place to let your hair down.”

“It was our first trip, for Mother's Day brunch. We didn't make a reservation, but they were very accommodating and we were seated in less than 5 minutes. Our server was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. I got chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was the best I've had in a long time, including living in SC for 8 years. We did not feel rushed, even though we were squeezed in and the bartender mixed an awesome off-menu drink for me. We plan to return for brunch and to try their dinner menu.”

“Hands down the best meal I’ve eaten both times my fiancé and I have went. Love the food, service and the music from The Grotto. Our waiter was the best we've had eating anywhere else. I believe his name was Pedro. I am looking forward to our next visit already!”

-Stephanie H.

“This review is more for the Grotto (which is in the basement of the Newell House). My coworkers and I frequent the Grotto for its great happy hour specials and excellent wait staff. The menu in The Grotto is relatively small (sandwiches, appetizers, and specials) but, after trying almost everything on the menu, it's all good! The burgers are always juicy and the mood is chill. The lighting is low and they frequently have live music later in the evening. Also leopard print carpet. Pretty awesome.”

-Tayler H.

“The staff was polite and helpful, the wine list contained a decent selection, and the menu small enough for the chef to make every plate near perfection.
Truly the gem of Carbondale, one would be hard pressed to find a comparative restaurant. A great destination with a nice and quiet ambiance that is truly enjoyable.”

-David P.
