Blues at Vancouver: Club tries to keep pace with conference leaders

  • 0

When, where: 9 p.m. Sunday

About the Canucks: They’re a different team since Bruce Boudreau took over for Travis Green as head coach. When Green was fired Dec. 5, the Canucks were last in the Pacific — behind even the expansion Seattle Kraken — at 8-15-2. Since Boudreau took over, they are 10-3-2 for the best record in the division over that span.

The team is in the midst of a COVID outbreak, with both goalies (Thatcher Demko, Jaroslav Halak) and three top forwards (Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, J.T. Miller) on the COVID list. It’s uncertain if any will return against the Blues. Spencer Martin, who played in his first NHL game in five years Friday, is expected to start in goal against St. Louis. Martin stopped 33 of 34 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to Florida.

Capacity at Rogers Arena is limited to 50 percent due to COVID regulations, or just a little over 9,000. The Blues haven’t played Vancouver since the Edmonton bubble, losing a first-round playoff series 4 games to 2.
