The Golden Eagles, a 17U AAU girls basketball team based in Carbondale, took fourth place at Triple Crown Basketball's Western Championship last week in San Diego.

The local team won five games and reached the semifinals, falling to a team from Chula Vista, a San Diego suburb. A total of 36 teams from nine states and Europe participated.

Representing the Golden Eagles were Carterville standouts Jeniah Thompson and Abbey Crain, as well as Payton Morgan (Pinckneyville) and Sabrina Kollbaum (Nashville).

They were joined by Madison Morganthaler of Pinckneyville, Elaiyah Badger of Carbondale, Karsyn Thrash (West Frankfort) and Jaedyn Beers (Galatia).
