SIU guard Mike Rodriguez (1) looks to control the ball against Bradley guards Jayden Hodgson (35) and Ronnie Suggs (2) during the second half at SIU Arena on Wednesday in Carbondale. SIU went on to win 85-65.

CARBONDALE — Former Bradley University guard Ronnie Suggs, a graduate transfer from Missouri for the upcoming season, signed with SIU's men's basketball team after committing to the team Thursday night.

Suggs, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard from Washington, Missouri, announced his commitment Friday on Twitter. He will have one year of eligibility this winter with the Salukis, and becomes their fourth senior for the upcoming season. Guards Aaron Cook and Eric McGill both started last season, and graduate transfer Barret Benson is in for one year after transferring from Northwestern.

Suggs' signing leaves new coach Bryan Mullins with one scholarship left for the 2019-2020 season.

Suggs played his first two seasons at Bradley from 2015 to 2017 and had two of his better years there. His freshman year, the first of the Brian Wardle era, he started 19 of 32 games, shot 33.6% from the field, 26.1% from the 3-point line and 70.1% at the free-throw line. Suggs averaged 8.5 points and four rebounds per game for a 5-27 squad that finished last in the Missouri Valley Conference (3-15). He played in 16 games, 15 of them off the bench, the following season, shooting 31.3% from the field.

Suggs scored a season-high seven points against Delaware and Nevada.

He sat out the 2017-18 season after joining Missouri as a walk-on. Suggs earned a scholarship for the spring semester and played in 27 of 32 games for the Tigers last season. Suggs scored 46 points, and had his best game against one of the Tigers' best opponents, No. 4 Kentucky, when he scored a season-high 13 points and grabbed a season-high four boards. Suggs made 5 of 9 from the field against the Wildcats, including 3 of 5 from the 3-point line. He played 12 or more minutes in four of Missouri's last eight games.

Riddled with injuries — pro prospect Jontay Porter, a preseason all-conference center, hurt his knee in a closed scrimmage against SIU and missed the whole season — Missouri finished 15-17 overall and 5-13 in the Southeastern Conference. The Tigers also lost Illinois transfer Mark Smith, a former Illinois Mr. Basketball, to a season-ending injury about two-thirds through the season.

Suggs became the seventh spring signee and the eighth newcomer for the Salukis this year. Freshman guard Lance Jones of Evanston Township High School, who led his team to the state championship game, signed with SIU last November. The Salukis return Cook, McGill, junior forward Brendon Gooch and redshirt freshman forward Sekou Dembele.
