ST. LOUIS — One-hundred-six student-athletes earned the Missouri Valley Conference's highest academic honor, the President's Council Academic Excellence Award, the league announced.

Nearly 1,900 were selected to the MVC Honor Roll. Nine SIU athletes earned the league's highest honor.

The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative GPA (through the 2019 spring semester), participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and to be within 18 hours of graduation. SIU's Taylor Aldridge (women's golf), Maggie Burke (swimming and diving), Caitlyn Claussen (women's basketball), Luca Palasti (track and field), Samantha Parsons (swimming and diving), Bailee Pulley (softball), Jordan Ries (swimming and diving), Jacqueline Rose (swimming and diving) and Amber Ruiz-Bueno (track and field) were honored for their efforts with the President's Academic Award.

It marked the fourth-straight year in which at least eight Salukis have taken home the President's Academic Award.

Along with the nine recipients of the President's Academic Award, 72 Saluki student-athletes were named Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. A total of 123 SIU student-athletes were honored on the MVC Honor Roll.

Also, 731 student-athletes received the league's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.5 for the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA, and participation in athletics a minimum of two years.
