Harrisburg High School has hired a new boys soccer coach and Cobden High School is looking for a boys basketball coach.

Former Harrisburg soccer standout Jared Butler was hired earlier this month to take over the program. Butler was part of Harrisburg’s inaugural 2005 squad. He was a two-time All-South selection for the Bulldogs.

Following high school, Butler played collegiately at Rend Lake and Greenville College. He had previously served as an assistant coach at Harrisburg and also coached the Southern Illinois Hawks club program.

Harrisburg students interested in competing this year can contact Butler at 618-499-8267.

In the meantime, Cobden is looking for a boys basketball coach to replace Rhett Barke. Barke coached the Appleknockers for eight seasons, compiling a 90-118 record.

Persons interested in the position are asked to send a letter of interest to Edwin Shoemate, 413 North Appleknocker, Cobden, Illinois 62920 by June 20.
