CARBONDALE — Jacob Sutton went 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs Monday as Steeleville's baseball team backed up its sectional upset at Goreville with an 11-7 decision over Altamont to win the Class 1A Carbondale Super-Sectional at Itchy Jones Stadium.

The victory sends the Warriors (23-5) to the state semifinals Friday in Peoria, where they'll meet Gibault Catholic of Waterloo at noon. The Hawks routed Illini Bluffs 14-3 in five innings to earn the Springfield Super-Sectional title.

Coming off a come-from-behind 8-5 victory Saturday at Goreville, where they clouted three sixth inning homers to erase a 5-2 deficit, Steeleville kept the bats rolling.

A.J. Stearns picked up the win and Rory Lutz got the save for the Warriors. They ended what's believed to be a 26-year drought of reaching the state semifinals. They finished second in 1993.

Altamont got three hits, including a homer and double, and four RBIs from Jacob Hammer.
