On Friday night at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium, Fairfield showed exactly why they are the favorite in the Black Diamond Conference this year.
While the Eldorado Eagles scored first, the Mules quickly took the lead for good, on their way to a dominating 61-28 conference victory.
Fairfield dominated in almost every stat line. The Mules' smothering defense forced 25 turnovers from the Eagles, while the Mules only coughed up the ball 9 times throughout the night.
The one place where Eldorado showed an advantage was on the boards. Eldorado outrebounded Fairfield, as the Eagles pulled down 31 rebounds to Fairfield’s 20. Even with nearly half of the Eldorado rebounds being on the offensive side of the court, the Mules were still able to stifle the Eagles' offense.
For the Mules, meanwhile, it was a balanced attack. Jayzale O’Neal led Fairfield with 15 points, but every Mule that played in the first 3 quarters scored multiple points.
With the win, Fairfield improves to 8-0 on the season, with a 2-0 conference record. The Mules will play another conference game on Tuesday night, traveling to Hamilton County. The Eagles fall to 6-2, 0-1 in conference, and will play their next game on Friday, when they travel for a conference game at Johnston City.
