Massac County has a new girls basketball coach, although Justin Kindle certainly isn't a neophyte as far as the program is concerned.
An assistant coach under Keith Shelton and then Jim Prevallet since 2009, Kindle was named on Monday night to succeed Prevallet,
Over the last two seasons, the Patriots went 20-33 under Prevallet, including a 10-17 record in 2018-19. But most of the key players were sophomores or juniors, and the athletic ability is certainly there for Massac County to become a threat for the SIRR Ohio title.
Prevallet won 13 regional titles in his first 17 years as Patriots coach from 1985-2002, going 331-141. They finished second in Class 1A in 1986 and repeated the feat after moving up to 2A in 1987.

He also won more than 61 percent of his teams in a 17-year run as Massac County's softball coach, earning six regional titles and making a super-sectional in 1985.
Kindle helped the Patriots earn three regional titles under Shelton, as well as a sectional crown in 2015.
