Benton claimed sixth place in the Class 2A boys golf tournament at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington

The Rangers finished Saturday’s round at 310 and had a 36-hole total of 621. Peoria Notre Dame took the Class 2A title at 607.

Senior Brad Hammond fired a team-best 76 Saturday and finished seventh overall in 2A. Collin Miller carded a 74 Saturday, Cy Normal 77 and Brett Merkel 83.

The only Class 2A individual to advance to Saturday’s final round was Ian Davis, a freshman, from Carbondale. Davis finished 28th overall. He shot 78 both days to finish with a two-day total of 156.

In Class 1A, Carmi-White County dropped from first place to fourth in Saturday’s final round.

Carmi had a one-stroke over eventual state champion Breese Mater Dei going into Saturday’s final round. The Bulldogs shot a final round 350 while Mater Dei shot a 322.

In Saturday’s final round, Ty Barbre led Carmi with an 80 while Oakley Gee and KaCee Fulkerson both shot 84. Kaden Carter rounded up Carmi’s scoring with a 102.

Individually, Chester’s Jarrett James shot 75 Saturday to finish 12th overall. Anna-Jonesboro’s Peter Hauser carded an 85 Saturday to finish 38th.

Hamilton County’s Kylee Vaughan, a junior, was the only player alive on the girls side. She shot rounds of 74 both days to finish sixth in Class 1A.
