Prep Tennis | Butler, Song eliminated in second day of state tournament

Carbondale’s Jack Butler split his two matches Friday at the Class 1A IHSA boys tennis tournament in the Chicago area.

Butler started the day with an 8-2 victory over Bill Layton of Urbana, but was eliminated from the event in the fourth round of the consolation bracket with an 8-5 defeat against Grant Sarnowski of Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.

Mount Vernon’s Daniel Song lasted into the fifth round of consolation before suffering an 8-0 defeat from Christian Abban of Grayslake North. Earlier Friday, Song earned an 8-2 win over Andrew Carr of Chicago De La Salle, then picked up a forfeit victory against Luke Welker of Burlington Central.
