Jake Willsey's two-out, two-run home run in the third capped a four-run third to help the Southern Illinois Miners top Gateway 10-6 Saturday night.
Willsey's drive off Grizzlies starter Taso Stathopoulos scored Luke Bonfield for a 7-0 Miners lead. Austin Dubsky and four relievers made it stand up in front of an announced crowd of 6,214 fans at GCS Ballpark.
Dubsky (4-4) allowed five runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 but picked up his fourth win of the year. Dubsky struck out one and walked one.
Stathopoulos allowed seven runs, all earned, and eight hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Southern Illinois pounded out 13 hits, eight of them for extra bases. Third baseman Kyle Davis hit two home runs, solo shots in the first and fourth innings, and drove in three. Romeo Cortina went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Luke Bonfield also went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
The finale of the three-game series is set for Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
