The Miners Thursday moved to beef up their catching position for the 2019 season by signing former Seattle Mariners prospect Arturo Nieto.
Over 316 professional games, Nieto batted .240 with eight homers and 95 RBI, clubbing a three-run homer in the 2017 California League championship series that enabled Modesto to win the title.
Nieto threw out 46 percent of base-stealers during his time in affiliated ball, and spent 2018 as a bullpen catcher for the San Diego Padres.
Nieto will be reunited with utility infielder Gianfranco Wawoe, his teammate in Modesto in 2017. Wawoe was the Miners' first off-season signing.
Their second one, Frontier League home run champ Chris Iriart, was sold last month to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
