The Miners overcame the Grizzlies 6-4 on Friday in the first of three games they will play this weekend at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget.

The Grizzlies got off to a fast start in the first inning when Trae Santos and Shane Mardirosian both scored runs off Miners winning pitcher Kurt Heyer.

The Miners were on the board by the second inning, though, with a run by Chance Shepard, chased home by Anthony Critelli, and then stacked up some runs in the third on a three-run homer by Nolan Earley

The fourth and fifth inning were scoreless for both teams but the Grizzlies gave it another go in the sixth to tie it up when Shane Mardirosian and Audie Afenir made it home off a single to center field by Jeff Cardenas.

Zach Hartman finished off the game for the Miners, earning the save.

The Miners will meet up with Grizzlies again tonight at 7:05 p.m. for game two at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget.

Jordan Brink is the probable pitcher for the Miners and Alec Kisena is expected to throw for the Grizzlies.
