Canadian Wild players are introduced

The Canadian Wild players are introduced before the team’s home opener against the USSSA Pride at Rent One Park on Thursday in Marion.

AVON, Ohio — Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois hurler Jenna Caira threw the first no-hitter in the National Pro Fastpitch League Friday night against the Beijing Eagles in the first game of a doubleheader.

Caira, a former pitcher at Syracuse, walked one and struck out four in the Wild's 4-0 victory. Fifty of her 78 pitches went for strikes. 

Victoria Hayward, Joey Lye, Jennifer Sailing and Callium Pilgrim all drive in a run in the Wild's victory. Cleveland, the home team in the nightcap of the doubleheader that was played at the home of the Lake Erie Crushers, beat the Wild 4-2 late Friday night. Down 2-1, the Comets (1-6) picked up their first win of the season with a three-run sixth.

Arissa Urtez hit a one-out double to tie the game, and Chelsea Gonzalez's 2-RBI single made it 4-2. 

The Wild (11-3) play another doubleheader today beginning at 3 p.m. at Sprenger Stadium. The Wild play the Beijing Eagles (1-9) at 3 and the Comets at 6 p.m.

The Wild's next home game is Wednesday against the Chicago Bandits. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Rent One Park.
